In the middle (of the middle) of the country, a teenage girl gets pregnant. Her mother insists she carry the baby to term but refuses to let the shame of teenage pregnancy tarnish their family's reputation. The mother forces her daughter to tell the town priest that the pregnancy is the result of an immaculate conception—that God is the father of her child. Narrated by the Statue of Liberty, the lie spirals through America until everyone believes Louise is a Modern Day Mother Mary.
